McGregor published Theory X and Theory Y over 30 years ago. Do we still have Theory X managers among us? Why do you think so?
Yes, there is still leader who practice Theory X. As discussed in lecture, each leadership style has its own pros and cons, and should be applied according to situation. Theory X could be applied if leader is unsure about follower ability, it can be used to break-in new employee to help them be more familiarized with how the work is done. However, Theory Y is more suitable when the employee is already familiar, it can expand how the work is done. Theory X can ensure the baseline productivity while Theory Y can result in many efficient way to improve productivity.
